The goal of the interscholastic athletics program is to maintain the ideals of our mission statement while striving for competitive excellence and promoting, “C.H.A.M.P.S.”, the MICDS Athletic Covenant. The athletic program provides participation opportunities while promoting sportsmanship and the value of competition at a high level.

Athletic Mission Statement
“Through participation in the athletic program, students will have the opportunity to gain and sustain emotional, intellectual and physical growth and well-being.”

MICDS Athletic Requirement
As part of their curricular obligation, 9th & 10th grade students are required to participate in two seasons of athletic activity per year. 11th and 12th grade students are required to participate in one season of athletic activity per year. This yearly requirement can be met in a variety of ways.

Upper School Sports
Students select from 29 different programs supporting 57 teams in the Upper School.   Baseball, Girls’ / Boys’ Basketball, Cheerleading, Crew, Girls’ / Boys’ Cross Country, Cycling, Dance,  Field Hockey, Football, Girls’ / Boys’ Golf, Ice Hockey, Girls’ / Boys’ Lacrosse, Girls’ / Boys’ Soccer,   Boys’ / Girls’ Squash, Girls’ / Boys’ Swimming & Diving, Girls’ / Boys’ Tennis, Girls’ / Boys’ Track & Field, Volleyball, Water Polo, Wrestling. Students can serve as team participants, managers or trainers.  

In the 2012-13 school year, 23 of 26 head coaching positions in the Upper School are filled by faculty members.

Middle School Sports
The Middle School athletic program emphasizes participation for each team member involved in one of the 19 sport offerings. Teams are sponsored in 7th and 8th grade with multiple teams in each sport being the norm and not the exception.

Students select from 19 different programs supporting 38 total teams in the Middle School.
