To achieve our mission, MICDS has a long history of encouraging its students to “give back” to their communities and the greater world. As environmental issues and the concept of building sustainable communities gains momentum, MICDS makes it a priority to educate our students and encourage our adults to be conscientious stewards of the environment. As “MICDS Goes Green,” we remain committed to ensuring our School’s environmental health through the management of resources, in order to create the best possible learning environment for current and future students.
DID YOU KNOW...?
  • The banners in the Hermann Atrium (MAC Gymnasium) are made from 100% recycled materials.
  • Each Tray-less Tuesday in the Upper School Dining Hall saves 2.5 gallons of water per wash, thus eliminating 75 wash loads for a savings of 185 gallons of water.
  • This school year, MICDS second grade classes initiated a recycling project to collect old newspapers, magazines and plastic bags. The newspapers are being reused by the Humane Society as litter and to line cages. The plastic bags are being re-used by the St. Louis Area Food Bank when they hand out food. The magazines are being recycled.
  • During the 2009 Earth Day fundraiser, the middle school raised more than $450 to protect 9 acres of coral reef.
