App Makers Academy is an awesome Winter Term course in Middle School. The fifth and sixth graders enjoyed creating projects, coding games, and making apps. “My favorite part about App Makers Academy is coding games and creating apps,” shared Carter Sonderman ’31. Carter was working on coding the Subway Surfers game, and then he was making his own online app that is based on the popular game Hangman.
Seventh Grade History Teachers, Mr. Whitney and Ms. Simic, who are teaching the App Makers Academy, love to teach their students how to create apps, code games, have fun, and spend time with their students. “It is a fun class but also beneficial for the students to learn how to do it. I love that I am learning something new every day and teaching myself as I teach the kids,” said Mr. Whitney.
The students of App Makers Academy not only love coding games, but they also enjoy learning how to code and debug code. Debugging a code means fixing a code that has a broken part in it or needs to be corrected.
“My favorite part of App Makers was the first day where we got to code Scratch games and make apps,” said Jack Corcoran ’31. Jack coded an online battle game, and then he made his own hockey app. The students worked on designing and coding games, and then they worked on creating their own MICDS app which they could design however they chose. Angela Yang ’31 stated, “I like making new things and learning new things. I especially love designing my own app because I make it however I want it.”
Appmakers is an amazing class that does not only involve making games but also picking up skills in technology along the way. Sawyer Noel ’30 stated, “I chose this class because I like coding and creating games on Scratch. I also like working with games and doing all kinds of stuff in App Makers Academy.” I know I would join this class if I could!
