Fourth Graders Celebrate Recognition Day

On Wednesday, May 26, the Class of 2029 celebrated 4th Grade Recognition Day in the McDonnell Athletic Center. After a retrospective slideshow for the students and guests, Head of School Jay Rainey kicked off the event with remarks and a reading of the Billy Collins poem, Today. The students performed musical pieces and shared original works of poetry, which captured their creativity and memories of their time in the Ronald S. Beasley Lower School. The poems generated laughter, reflection, and bittersweet memories for all. Mr. Rainey then presented each student with their recognition certificate.

Head of Lower School Amy Scheer shared in her remarks, “I saw students who are independent learners, who help each other and lend a hand willingly before anyone asks. I saw students who encourage each other and who give constructive feedback in kind ways. More importantly, I saw students who possess all the knowledge and skills they need to be successful next year in a new part of the school…I’m excited for you to make many new memories together as a class as you continue to strengthen the friendships you have with each other and as you meet new friends in coming years at MICDS.”

Congratulations to the Class of 2029! The Middle School is looking forward to seeing you in the Fall. And a heartfelt thanks to our outstanding 4th Grade Teachers – Mr. Chris Brennan ’94, Mrs. Lauren King, Ms. Jen Van Dyken, and Mrs. Donna Waters – for your fantastic adaptability and hard work this year helping these students grow!
