Football Awards from Gateway Sports Venue
Gateway Sports Venue declared three Rams as recipients of their 2022 football awards. The „Dynamic Duo of the Year“ award went to Steven Hall ’23 and Winston Moore ’23, and below are their stats:
- Hall: 1705 rushing yards, 29 touchdowns
- Moore: 1122 rushing yards, 30 touchdowns
- Hall: 194 points
- Moore: 202 points
- Combined 3,005 total yards
- Hall: 2nd Team All-State
- Moore: 3rd Team All-State
The Freshman of the Year award went to Miles Coleman ’26 who had the following achievements:
- Starting left guard in the senior-laden offensive line
- Started every game for 11-2 Rams who won a Class 5 District title
- Helped pave way for 3,000 rushing yards for starters
- Metro League honorable mention
In addition, Coleman was invited to play in the All America Bowl’s underclassmen game in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, January 21. Go Miles!
Senior Commits to Colgate
Congratulations to Winston Moore ’23 who signed to officially play football at Colgate University!
Ray '23 Makes Girls Cross Country First Team
Julia Ray ’23 was announced as making the 2022 All-Metro Girls Cross Country First Team. She is highlighted for winning the state championship as a freshman and as a senior, running the area’s fastest 5-kilometer race of 18:03.8 at Nike Twilight, and for being a Class 4 District 3 and Metro League champion. Way to go, Julia!
Junior Presents at American Geophysical Union Fall Conference
Zoe Zlatic ’24 attended the American Geophysical Union Fall Conference on December 16, 2022, and, with members of her NASA STEM Enhancement of Earth Science summer internship team, presented the findings of their photometric research on Asteroid 14691. The team was part of the Bright STaRS program, which invites middle and high school students in after-school and summer research experiences in Earth and space science to participate in the Bright Students Training as Research Scientists (Bright STaRS) program. The program provides a dedicated forum for around 100 students to present their own research results to the scientific community and learn about exciting research, education, and career opportunities in Earth and space science. Freshman to Represent Boys Youth Soccer on State Team
For the second year in a row, the Missouri Olympic Development Program selected Samson Gibli ’26 to represent boys youth soccer on the State team. For the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, athletes who want to represent their state, region, or nation must go through the selection process from the very beginning, prior selection status notwithstanding. For several months, tryouts were held in cities across Missouri. Coaches announced the rosters on December 16 here.
Over the next six months, Gibli will attend tournaments across the Midwest to compete against other state teams. Regional and national team coaches in attendance will select athletes to invite to regional tryouts and eventually national team tryouts.
Exciting Games for Boys Basketball in MICDS Don Maurer Holiday Tournament
On December 27, the Rams Boys Basketball team defeated St. Mary’s 70-63 in the quarterfinal round of the Don Maurer Holiday Tournament with the help of Brandon Clemens ’26. Clemens is a freshman guard who made the first shot of overtime along with 20 points and six rebounds throughout the game. Other highlights were from Mason Swartz ’24 (14 points and eight rebounds), Brin Lewis ’23 (five rebounds), and Jayden Banks ’24 (14 points, five rebounds, and four assists).
In the semifinals of the Don Maurer Holiday Tournament, Marcus Coleman ’23 scored the game-winning basket right before the buzzer sounded. Check out the video of the exciting play of the tournament as captured by Gateway Sports Venue!
Pellegrini Saves Over 30 Goals, MICDS Hockey Ice Hockey Defeats Parkway South
Deren Pellegrini ’23 is featured in this STL Today article for his stellar goaltending performance at Monday’s ice hockey game against Parkway South. Pellegrini made an incredible 32 saves out of 34 shots to help the Rams be victorious, 3-2. Two goals were scored by Ameer Hajji ’24, and one was scored by Harry Kohler ’23. iDentity Club Members & Faculty Attend Student Diversity Leadership Conference
Six Upper School students who are members of our iDentity Club attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas from November 30 through December 3. The theme of the conference was “We The People: Leveraging Our Community to Preserve Our Humanity.” Ash Aranha ’23, Devyn Rodgers ’23, Cameron Cooper ’25, Carli Salazar Estrada ’25, Anika Mulkanoor ’25, and Nina Willis ’25, spent two days connecting with more than 1,800 student leaders across the country. They had the opportunity to share many conversations about leadership in their schools with other students. Additionally, they attended leadership sessions and experienced new growth in their own leadership skills and a sense of purpose in leading others. „Our students walked away with many ideas to bring back to our School community, and they will be working as a leadership team to plan the upcoming Student Diversity Conference in February,“ said Dr. Grace Lee, Dean of Faculty.
