Henry Mikula '21 Wins Class 5 Golf District 1

Henry was co-medalist in the Class 5A districts last weekend and was the sole MICDS golfer who qualified for the State Championship in Sedalia next week. Read more about his accomplishment in this article from STL Today. Congratulations, Henry! 

Purdy '21 and Kacmarek '21 Named to All-Metro Football Team

Grant Purdy ‘21 and Will Kacmarek ‘21 were named in the annual Post-Dispatch All-Metro football team, covering athletes who played from August until April in a season challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Grant was named to the 2020-21 All-Metro football first team defense, and Will was named to the All-Metro football third team defense. Congratulations, Grant and Will!

Maahi Saini '27 Achieves 2nd in Public Speaking Contest

In the 2021 Regional Contests for The North South Foundation, Maahi Saini ’27 achieved the second rank in the 2021 Regional Junior Public Speaking contest. The North South Foundation is a non-profit organization involved in implementing educational programs for children in North America and India. Congratulations, Maahi!

Boys Tennis Competes at Districts

In District Tennis on May 7, Evan Erb ’21 and Justin Jan ’22 faced off in the finals. Erb took first place with a hard-fought three-set win of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Erb and Jan both qualify for State Individuals. Additionally, Ari Motwani ’21 and Ryan Jasper ’21 finished in 3rd in doubles play. Way to go, Ram Tennis!

Track Records Fall in the Upper School

Our successful track athletes create a cascade of broken records! Julia Ray ‘21 ran 5:01.57 to break her own 1600m record which before this year was held by Geneva Lee ’16 who ran 5:15.34 in 2016.

Ray also achieved a school record of 10:56.88 in the 3200 which beats her own record of 11:12.16 which was previously held by Grace Bridwell ’11 with 11:23.54 from 2011.

In the Boys 4x200m relay: Novo Onovwerosuoke ‘22, Winston Moore ‘23, Harrison Brown ‘22, and Tony Nunn ‘22 ran 1:30.93 to break the school record previously held by Joshua Sutton ’19, Christian Matava ’16, Keiondre Jordan ’17, and Will Jacobs ’17 which was 1:31.06 from 2016.

Maya Anderson ‘23 achieved a school record of 14.21 in the 100m Hurdles which beats her own record of 14.48 from earlier this year and was previously held by Zionn Pearson ’18 in 2015 with a time of 14.83.

In the Sprint Medley Relay: Onovwerosuoke, Brown, Nunn, and Henry Bryne ’23 ran a school record with 3:57.64. The previous record was 4:03.26 which was set in 2019 by Kenneth Townsend ’19, Nathan Smith ’21, Shawn Putman ’21, and Trevon Bobo ’21.

Middle School Squash Tournament

Congratulations to all 35 squash players who participated in the 2021 Middle School Squash Tournament–two days of competition to cap off a great season of squash! Special recognition goes to the following students for their top placements:

  • 1st place: Charlotte Medler ’26 & Oscar Sorkin ’25
  • 2nd place: Hannah VanValkenburg ’25 & Jai Patel ’25
  • 3rd place: Lilly Loeb ’25 & Taha Syed ’25
  • 4th place: Shritha Devisetty ’26 & Ryan Jan ’25

Middle School Track Completes a Winning Season

Highlights from the last Middle School Track meet of the season: Ian Boon ’25 established a dominating lead from start to finish in the 800-meter boys’ race; the girls’ 4X100 set a convincing win in their event; Grace Coppel ’25 claimed a first-place finish in the 400 meters; and Nicole Green ’25 set a new record in the girls’ shot: 9.11 meters!

Several records fell on the girls’ side of the ledger this year, three of which (200m, Long Jump and Shot) were re-set by Green in an outstanding season. Catherine Campbell ’25 claimed the 100 meters in the first meet of the year.  

Congratulations to all athletes for outstanding performances in a particularly challenging competitive environment and harsh weather conditions. Thanks to our coaching staff, Chris Rappleye, Mike Fitzgerald, Tex Tourais, Krystal White, and Nick Menneke, and to all those who transported and cheered on our Middle School athletes this year.
