The philosophy of the MICDS Extended Day Program is that after-school activities should be just as exciting and engaging as the school day itself. Our program is dedicated to providing a vibrant, learning-rich experience in a safe, nurturing, and home-like atmosphere for those students in Junior Kindergarten through 6th
grade who either cannot be picked up right after school or who just want to stay and have a great time.
At 3:30 every day, students enrolled in Extended Day rush to their designated locations to do the kinds of things that kids everywhere love to do after school: find a cozy corner to read a good book; socialize with friends while enjoying a tasty mid-afternoon treat; head to the art studio to throw a pot or make a mosaic; try their hand at some educational computer games (and sneak in a few that are just for fun, too); join an impromptu soccer match or play foursquare on the playground; and of course, get a jump start on their homework for the night.
The program also offers a whole host of enrichment activities that are available to students throughout the year for an added fee. Topics ranging everywhere from cuisine and culture to science experiments, from LEGO Robotics to chess competitions, from conversational Spanish to lessons in cartooning and imaginative dance—the list goes on and on. Students are such busy bees that more often than not, when parents show up they aren’t quite ready to leave!
