Upper School Teachers Show Students They Can Be Playful, Too!

Students aren’t the only ones enjoying the start of the school year with a laugh, a high five and some competitive fun! Upper School faculty and staff members are showing off their playful side as well, and the students are relishing these “memories-in-the-making.”

First up, we present “Stranger Deans,” a video parody of the hit Netflix show “Stranger Things” brought to you by several members of our Upper School faculty and staff. This video was shown at an Upper School assembly last week, and students grinned and laughed as they watched some of their favorite teachers and administrators get into character, some with creative costumes. Ultimately, MICDS educators want to be relatable and approachable for students. They want students to know that faculty and staff don’t take themselves too seriously, that they are real people and that they can chuckle at pop culture parodies with the best of them!

This week, the back-to-school fun continued during Upper School activities period with a special faculty vs. student athletic competition. Varsity Tennis Coach Patrick Huewe challenged Journee White ’22 to a tennis match while 10th and 11th graders watched and cheered. It was a close match, and ultimately Coach Huewe prevailed over White 6-4. Students then made their way to McCreery Field for some competition of their own including kickball and a giant Jenga game. Upper School Dean Daniel George shared, “The idea is to build some fun memories, a bit of friendly, low-stakes competition and an opportunity to highlight some of the sports and other activities that students participate in at such a high level.” This round the faculty took the prize of doughnuts for breakfast the next day, and White’s advisory was also treated to doughnuts for her remarkable performance and sportsmanship.
The Upper School Activities Fair is just around the corner, and word on the street is that faculty and staff are already thinking about their performance. We can’t wait to see what fun this day will hold!
