Black History Month Celebrations

The Black Student Union in the Upper School hosted a series of events in February to celebrate Black History Month. The event theme was „Black Future Month – envisioning the next generation of black excellence.“ They held a listening party in Blanke Room on the evening of February 7 and a BSU night at the basketball games on February 20 and 26. In addition, the Bond Lecture occurred on February 19, and Jaylen Bledsoe was the speaker, as previously reported.

The Black History Month celebration culminated in a wrap-up event on February 28. The Black Student Union and the African American Support Committee co-hosted a student and family gathering for fun, food and fellowship. Upper School English Teacher Celeste Prince, who serves as the BSU faculty sponsor, shared, „With the goal of celebrating past, present and future generations of black excellence, attendees partook in a potluck, played cards and a game of Black Jeopardy, and discussed ways we can continue to encourage and uplift one another beyond the month of February. It was a lovely night for celebration and connection!“

Thank you to all the students and families who made this event possible and participated in the celebrations!
