The Middle School students that are in the class “STOMP” have explored how to make sounds out of random objects in your daily life. BOOM! When I walked in, I was able to notice that the kids in STOMP were split in half and trying to make a performance. Watching them slowly piece this performance together was amazing because they had many disagreements but they were able to work together to figure them out. By the end of the performance, I could tell that making the performance took a lot of time and effort!
The Middle School Band Teacher, Mr. Berry, is the teacher of STOMP and his goal is to teach the students in his class to learn about music and be able to have fun while playing music or listening to music. He also hopes that students will have a stronger sense of community and make friends that they didn’t have before. Mr. Berry made STOMP to let students be able to enjoy something that they would not normally enjoy in a school setting. STOMP helps kids get a better understanding of music and a better appreciation when listening to music. Lucy Scanlon ’31 says, “Music can be anything as long as you set your mind to it!” Students and Mr. Berry use everyday objects to turn them into drums to make music as a band.
Walking in, you see kids banging on drums and even people bouncing basketballs! Basketball players even get solos, and the sound of them going in between their legs is like a steady beat, THUD, THUD, THUD! STOMP is an amazing place to be because people can really express themselves by making music!
