16 Gigs of Ram, the MICDS 7th and 8th grade robotics team, participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) at Gateway Science Academy and came away with a 3rd place finish. FTC teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots in a 10-week build period to compete in an alliance format against other teams.
The team was pretty excited, especially when they learned that last year’s team never placed that high at a meet,” said Josh McIntire, team coach. “I’d say the their biggest accomplishment was finishing third because in their last two matches they competed with a motor burned out and they didn’t have enough time between matches to fix it. So, their overall game strategy paid off even though they faced some technical difficulties.”
16 Gigs of Ram is made up of seventh and eight graders – all boys this year. This is the first year that anyone on the team has competed in FTC so it was a big win for them. Congratulations to 16 Gigs of Ram!
