On Friday, November 10, the MICDS Parents Association Passport Series welcomed parents and guardians to a celebration of the Indian holiday Diwali.
Diwali is an Indian festival of lights where friends and family gather to celebrate good fortune, the new year, and each other. The holiday celebrates good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.
The Olson Hall Presentation Room was transformed into a “passage to India” with colorful saris, a marigold-laden photo booth, and twinkling lights to mark the Festival of Lights. Parents enjoyed a presentation by committee chairs Dr. Shalini Malhotra P’25, ’28, and Dr. Raji Gadi P’25, ’29, a Diya dance lesson, a henna tattoo station, and explored the flavors of traditional Indian snacks and sweets.
In the week leading up to the event, parent volunteers and students decorated the front entryway in the Middle School to get into the spirit of this celebratory holiday.
Thanks to our Passport Series co-chairs, Sona Kamat P’18, ’24, ’25, and Sara Gilbert P’26, ’29, Parent Association President Annie Sloane P’20, ’25, Vice President of Parent Education Lara Doumit P’25, ’27, and our many parent/guardian volunteers. Happy Diwali, everyone!
A special thank you to Trudie Davies P’26, ’30, for capturing this phenomenal video of the Diwali event highlights!
