In keeping with a longstanding Middle School tradition, the Seventh Grade Class of 2018 spent four days off campus at camp during the week of August 27. Near the beginning of every school year, the seventh grade class journeys to the Touch of Nature Environmental Center to participate in activities designed to build class unity and leadership skills. Since the seventh grade class nearly doubles in size, with half of its students new to MICDS, the experience at camp provides wonderful opportunities for the kids to get to know one another.
Seventh Grade Dean Julie Johnson reports that camp for the Class of 2018 was a wonderful experience. Students’ filled their days with canoeing, climbing, hiking and team building. Free time was spent swimming in the lake and hanging out around the cabins. Meals were devoured quickly, and students and advisors spent their evenings working on leadership activities.
The Touch of Nature Environmental Center serves Southern Illinois University Carbondale and is a leader in experiential education.
