Seniors Published in Journal on Teaching History
Seniors Ava Moore ’24 and Kamryn Reed ’24 were recently published in Teaching History: A Journal of Methods. “I encouraged them to submit a joint reflection on their participation for a special issue on ‘History Fun and Games,'” shares Alex Rolnick, Upper School History Teacher. The editor writes, “The student reflections in the subsection of ‘History Fun and Games’ titled ‘Student Voices’ suggest that a gamification approach to historical content increased their understanding of past events while helping them build new connections and to feel highly engaged in the classroom environment…The second student reflection, ‘All African People’s Conference Game Reflection’ by Moore and Reed, emphasizes the variety of academic and professional skills that RTTP can help students develop, especially public speaking skills. Moore and Reed persuasively conclude that ‘it’s vital that history teachers around the world incorporate games into their classrooms to help students fully engage with the concepts and events that they are learning'” (page 138).

Dashing up the Leaderboard of Prep Baseball Report's 60-Yard Dash
Cameron Cooper ’25 is listed as number 27 in the PBR Missouri Best of 2023: 60 Yard Dash leaderboard! He is one of the fastest 60-yard dashers in the state with a time of 6.94 seconds. Cameron is also listed as 7th for Max Infield Velocity. Way to GO, Cameron!
Sophomore Earns 2024 YoungArts Award in Writing and Spoken Word
MICDS’ Isabelle Cox-Garleanu ’26 has received a 2024 YoungArts award in Writing and Spoken Word. “I was among the 7% selected from 9000 entries,” Isabelle said. YoungArts—the national foundation for the advancement of artists—was established in 1981 to identify exceptional young artists, amplify their potential, and invest in their lifelong creative freedom. All YoungArts award winners have demonstrated exceptional technique, a strong sense of artistry, and an extraordinary commitment to developing their crafts.
Read the following details from YoungArts: “Cox-Garleanu has been recognized for her caliber of achievement and joins the most accomplished young visual, literary, and performing artists from across the country, heralding the next generation of artists to watch. YoungArts award winners are selected through a highly competitive application, which is reviewed by panels of esteemed, discipline-specific artists in a rigorous adjudication process. 2024 YoungArts award winners join a distinguished community of artists who are offered creative and professional development support throughout their careers.
For the duration of her career, Cox-Garleanu is eligible for exclusive creative and professional development support; microgrants and financial awards; and presentation opportunities in collaboration with major venues and cultural partners nationwide.
As a YoungArts award winner, Cox-Garleanu joins a distinguished group of accomplished artists including Daniel Arsham, Terence Blanchard, Camille A. Boys Basketball Defeats Miller Career in Tip-Off Tournament
The MICDS Boys Basketball team is in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for defeating Miller Career last week, 57-39, as part of the MICDS Tip-Off Tournament. The top scorers were Brandon Clemens ’26 who scored 16 points, Mason Swartz ’24 who scored 14, and Keshon Mims ’26 who scored nine points. Check out the recap and video highlights here!
First and Second Team All-Conference Honors for Boys Soccer Players
This year, MICDS Boys Soccer had nine players earn recognition from other coaches in our conference. Three seniors got First Team All-Conference: Aidan Helms ’24, Samruddh Singh ’24, and Max Garcia ’24. Six players got Second Team All-Conference: Noni Aronson ’24, Aryan Tibrewala ’25, Benjamin Gelven ’25, Max Padratzik ’27, Colin Hutton ’24, and James Snyder ’26. Congrats to these soccer student-athletes and thank you to everyone who made this season memorable!
