Parents Association Kicks off the Year

The Parents Association (PA) held its annual kick-off event, the PA Fall Coffee and Committee Fair, last Friday in Olson Hall. The PA welcomed a record crowd of enthusiastic parents keen to connect with fellow parents, build community, and foster friendships. It was wonderful to welcome so many new families, many of whom have transferred to St. Louis from interstate and overseas!

A very lively and boisterous activities fair preceded the meeting, with many of our PA committee chairs and faculty members representing and highlighting their particular service to the PA. Parents were able to connect in person and find out how best to become involved in a committee of interest to them.

PA President Annie Sloane welcomed all and our Head of School, Jay Rainey, spoke about the importance of listening a little bit more to one another as if you don’t have anywhere more important to be. Thoughtful references were made to the book Open House for Butterflies by Ruth Krauss and on the selfless benefits of listening to one another that little bit more despite living in such a noisy world.

Jay also touched on what the 2024 Winter Term will look like for each division, which was of great interest to those in attendance. Jay’s remarks, sprinkled with humor and intent, were very well received and most appreciated by all. MICDS Board of Trustee member and past PA President, McKay Baur Mills ’92 P’23 and ’28, also spoke on the MICDS fund and the importance of parental support in giving our students the best possible educational experience possible.

During the business portion of the presentation, members of the 2023-2024 Parents Association Executive Board, Class Parent Chairs and Vice Chairs, and many parent committee volunteers were recognized and highlighted. This parental commitment to the PA is highly valuable and most appreciated. Parents also enjoyed a short slideshow of all things PA, highlighting what a positive experience it is when you say YES to being involved and partnering with the PA.

The MICDS Parents Association is a truly strong and vibrant group. The PA mission to foster closer relationships among the parents, students, faculty, and administration of the School and to maximize positive parental involvement in the School will easily be attained given the incredible and inclusive parents of MICDS! Thank you!

We welcome, once again, our parent community to join us at the annual Holiday Luncheon to be held in Olson Hall on December 1, 2023!

GO RAMS!
