MICDS Welcomes New Families

We were excited to celebrate accepted families and welcome them to our campus this week with two different events for new Lower and Middle School students.

Lower School families were invited to meet members of our faculty, visit their grade-level classrooms, and make new friends. Guests enjoyed a light breakfast in our Beasley Dining Hall while mingling, and students enjoyed meeting Charger the Ram.

Middle School families gathered in our McDonnell Athletic Center (the MAC) and new students embarked on a scavenger hunt that included fun activities like “Play an instrument with a Music Teacher” and “Shoot a free throw with the Varsity Coach.” They heard remarks from two current students, Kevon Phillips ’28 and Lily Harris ’28, and listened to Head of Middle School Jen Schuckman and Middle School Associate Director of Admissions Kerry Bryan. There was also a raffle with great MICDS prizes and families were able to meet current parents, students, and teachers.

“Our goals are to highlight the warmth of the MICDS community, allow new families to make connections with our fantastic teachers, and begin to see themselves as HAPPY here at MICDS,” said Bryan.

Lower School Associate Director of Admission Kimberly Saur enjoys this fun event each year. “There is so much excitement and positive energy at the celebration,” she said. “We’re welcoming new families into the community that we’ve gotten to know through the admission process on tours, at Open House, at play dates, and through their appointments. It feels like a long time coming for some of the children and their families…it starts to feel real at the celebration…and for the Junior Kindergarten class (Class of 2037), this is the first opportunity we have to start bringing them together!”

We hope all our accepted families had a great time at this first of many community events. Welcome to MICDS!
