By Julie Lawson P’28 and Amy Cabbabe P’29, ’31, Co-Chairs of PA Spring Luncheon
The Parents Association (PA) held their annual Spring Luncheon last Friday in Olson Hall with a “Spring in Bloom”-themed lunch!
The parents and guardians connected with one another, built community, and fostered friendships, while senior parents were warmly honored for their support and dedication. A delicious lunch included Greek, Caesar, and fruit salads, cranberry chicken, classic turkey bacon and balsamic glazed vegetable sandwiches, with homemade chips and freshly made lemon bars. Each table was adorned with watering cans of fresh flowers, baskets brimming with blooms, garden gloves wrapped in bows filled with seeds, and cheerful bird houses—each a joyful tribute to the season’s awakening.
We were very fortunate to have a special performance by the Lower School Beasley Choir, who warmly welcomed our parents to the luncheon with their heartfelt and beautiful voices. They filled the room with the joyous spirit of spring and truly did an amazing job!
We were privileged to have Jay Rainey, Head of School, as our guest speaker. Mr. Rainey delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “Our Opportunity: Process Over Product,” offering insightful reflections on the future of education in the age of AI. His remarks highlighted both the transformative potential and the ethical responsibilities that come with emerging technologies. Mr. Rainey’s message inspired thoughtful reflection on how schools can embrace innovation with purpose. Noting the many ways AI can enhance learning and spark curiosity, Mr. Rainey emphasized the fact that we must be thoughtful and cautious in how we use it to ensure that AI supports rather than replaces meaningful educational experiences.
Jen Hogan P’28, ’26, our PA President, welcomed everyone and thanked our PA co-chairs and numerous volunteers for organizing a festive and joyful lunch. She emphasized that it is a strong and vibrant group of parents who make up the MICDS Parents Association. Parents and guardians then enjoyed a short slideshow on all aspects of the PA, highlighting what a positive experience it can truly be when parents get involved and partner with the PA. The MICDS PA slate was announced for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Thank you to all for serving as Class Chairs, Class Vice Chairs, Committee leaders, and members of the Executive Board. Serving in a leadership position through the Parents Association is a great way to stay connected with your child’s school and meet other parents and guardians.
Thank you for being a part of our parent/guardian community. May you discover joy in both your work and family during this summer break, and we hope you will join us at the annual Fall Coffee to be held in Olson Hall in 2025!
