The 2025 Spring Band Concert: a Celebration of Music

Orthwein Theatre filled with music fans on Thursday, May 8, for the MICDS Spring Band Concert, and they enjoyed performances by the Middle School Fifth and Sixth Grade Beginning Band, the RAM Band, and Intro to Band students. Later that evening, the audience was treated to a concert with the Seventh and Eighth Grade Concert Band, the Upper School Band, and the Upper School Jazz Band.

Fifth and sixth graders played Procession of the Cyborgs by Mark Williams, Hunter’s Mountain by Rob Grice, and Tadpoles by Randall D. Standridge. 

The Seventh and Eighth Grade Intro Band and RAM Band played Great Beginnings by Michael Kamuf, Presto! by Robert Sheldon, and Blackbeard by Randall D. Standridge.

After intermission, the older band students took the stage.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Concert Band played Whiplash March by Robert Storms, Hedwig’s Theme by John Williams, arranged by Victor Lopez, The Red Balloon by Anne McGinty, Mandalorian by Ludwig Goransson, arranged by Robert Longfield, Arabian Dances by Robert Storms, and Darklands March by Randall D. Standridge. 

The Upper School Concert Band played His Honor by Harry Fillmore, arranged by Larry Clark, Nevermore by Brian Balmages, Up Selections by Michael Giacchino, arranged by Michael Brown, Heaven’s Light by Steven Reineke, and Imaginarium by Randall D. Standridge.

The MICDS Jazz Band performed Sway by Pablo Beltran Ruiz, arranged by John Berry, Stompin’ at the Savoy by Benny Goodman, Chick Webb, and Edgar Sampson, arranged by Mike Kamuf, and Mas Que Nada by Jorge Ben, arranged by Michael Sweeney.

The graduating seniors were also recognized. Congratulations to Norah Wright ’25, James Morey ’25, Nina Schuerer ’25, Max Charnond ’25, Jackson Vetter ’25, Sanjana Gandhi ’25, and Ellie Reardon ’25!

Bernard Berry, Director of Middle and Upper School Bands, thanked the audience for supporting these fine young musicians. “They have worked hard this academic year,” he said. He also thanked the band parents, the Arts Department, MICDS administrators, faculty, staff, facilities, and maintenance staff.
