On Saturday, October 11, the MICDS community enthusiastically greeted hundreds of attendees who flocked to campus for our 2025 Lower School Open House. Although the Lower School campus is currently under major construction with plans to be completed prior to the 2026-2027 academic year, families were able to set foot on campus to catch a glimpse of our Junior Kindergarten through fourth-grade education atmosphere, curriculum, and community.
“We were delighted to welcome so many prospective families to campus on Saturday for our Beasley Lower School Open House,” shares Amy Scheer, Head of Lower School. “As I shared with visitors, the Beasley faculty and staff are remarkably thoughtful and intentional in their work with students. I encouraged families to take note of the classroom environments, many of which are temporary spaces during this construction year. You would never know they are not our regular homerooms. Our teachers have created warm, engaging, and inspiring settings where students see themselves reflected and feel a deep sense of belonging as they learn and grow.”
The event started with families being greeted outside the McDonnell Athletic Center by some of our spirited Middle School cheerleaders and mascot Charger the Ram. Then, the morning program kicked off. First, attendees enjoyed a panel discussion with Ms. Scheer, Fourth Grade Homeroom Teacher Donna Waters, Lower School Learning Specialist Centron Felder, and two Beasley alumnae, Skyler Dastgah-Bradford ’29 and Taylor Nuzum ’26. The panelists discussed how teachers foster a strong sense of community in the classroom, encourage students to help one another, and how MICDS balances maintaining a rigorous curriculum with providing individualized support to students with different learning needs. They also shared how the Lower School focuses on teaching the whole child, ensuring that each student grows not only academically but also socially and emotionally. The Beasley alumnae also commented on their favorite memories from Lower School.
After the panel discussion, prospective Beasley families had the opportunity to visit classrooms and talk with our Lower School homeroom teachers. In the South Gym, they could chat with our specialist teachers who cover science, art, Spanish, library, PE/health, and Maker Space. “One of the things I love most about Open House is prospective families having the opportunity to speak directly with our outstanding Lower School faculty and get a sense of the warm community that we have here,” states Bill Senti, Associate Director of Admission – Lower School.
To wrap up the event, families were welcome to play on the Lower School playground, a joyful way to conclude the 2025 MICDS Lower School Open House!
“It was fun to see so much excitement on the Lower School campus of MICDS on Saturday,” expressed Eric Brunt, Director of Enrollment Management. “Prospective future Rams and their parents engaged with our teachers, explored our classrooms and community spaces, and played on the playground, all while experiencing the warmth and enthusiasm of the MICDS community.”
Thank you to all those who came to Open House and connected with our community! As we look forward to learning in the beautifully renovated facilities in Lower School, which all Beasley families will enjoy in the fall of 2026, we can’t wait to continue getting to know our prospective Ram families this admission season. Go Rams!
