Fore! The Rams Golf Teams Dedicate a New Resource

On Tuesday, March 3, MICDS was pleased to dedicate a brand new athletics asset: the Weiss Golf Practice Greens! This putting and chipping resource is located behind the head of school residence and provides a valuable resource for our girls and boys golf teams. The greens are a gift from David Weiss ’81 P’27 and Bobby Sanderson, who attended the dedication with their son, Jonathan ’27. The greens are marked with a plaque honoring David’s father, Sanford Weiss ’50. Several of Weiss’ classmates from the Class of ’81 also came to celebrate the generous gift.

Changa Bey, Varsity Boys Golf Coach, was happy to express appreciation on behalf of the team. “We are so grateful for the Weiss family, and it’s awesome that Jonathan is on the team and will be able to use these greens to practice. We’re going to put it to great use as we make a run for State this year!” Diane Gioia, Varsity Girls Golf Coach, and several of her players were also on hand to express their gratitude to the Weiss family.

The greens complement a golf simulator in the fitness room and solve a number of logistical problems. “It allows us to have meaningful golf practice right on campus, improving our game without having to leave,” said Bey. “We have wonderful resources on campus and amazing facilities, and this just adds on to that. I’m grateful that we have alumni and families willing to contribute to help our students.”

In addition to the Weiss family, the golf teams and coaches, and David’s classmates, a number of special guests rounded out the dedication. Jay Rainey, Head of School, was happy to talk about these great resources right in his backyard. Board of Trustees members McKay Baur Mills ’92, Brad Werner ’86, and John Lochhead attended to celebrate and show their support.

Many thanks to David Weiss ’81 and Bobby Sanderson for their generous gift. Our golf program will benefit for years thanks to your thoughtful donation.
