Upper School Students Visit the Ancient World at Home

Last Thursday, Upper School Latin students visited the St. Louis Art Museum to explore the exhibit Ancient Splendor: Roman Art in the Time of Trajan. Led by World Languages & Cultures Teachers Natalie Griffin and David Armstrong, the field trip showed students art and artifacts from the height of the Roman Empire.

Students gained insights into Roman daily life, the expansion of the Roman Empire, and the Roman identity during the era. Many of the works on display in the exhibit have never been seen outside of Italy, giving students a rare look at the sculptures, mosaics, and bronze artifacts that showcase how Emperor Trajan shaped Roman life during his reign from 98 to 117 AD.

Capitalizing on opportunities to explore the ancient world furthers student learning and deepens their understanding of classroom material in ways unmatched by any other approach. Well done, Rams!
