E-waste Drive Fills a Truck and Trailer

By Navya Reddy ’27

The Community Service Committee was proud to continue the tradition of our annual electronic recycling drive through a new community partnership this year. Through Operation Food Search’s ‘Repurpose for a Purpose‘ program and their partner, Phoenix Solutions, we were able to give back to the community by collecting electronics for recycling.

On the morning of the drive, we had some fantastic student volunteers show up to help us set up and unload donations as cars came in. Over those four hours, we had a fantastic showing of members from the community, with donations ranging from iPads and iPhones to floppy disks and MP3 players! Some of the oldest items were an old shortwave broadcast radio (courtesy of Mr. Tex Tourais, Dean of Digital Learning & US English Faculty) and many different flip phones. We also collected plenty of TVs, cords, computers, alarm clocks, radios, and more. We had a great time working with the people from Phoenix Solutions and hearing about the processes they go through to sort electronics for recycling or resale. By the end of the drive, we had filled up a truckload and a trailer of donations; the final weight of donations and amount that has been kept out of a landfill will be announced here soon (check back in the next week or two)!

A big THANK YOU to all those who contributed to the ewaste drive!
