Student Standouts: Cox-Garleanu ’29, Varsity Cycling, and Varsity Boys Golf

Congratulations to this week’s standouts below. Way to go #RamNation! And as always, if you have a story to share, please email weeklynews@micds.org.

Freshman Earns Blue Ribbon at St. Louis Science Fair

As a freshman, Nicholas Cox-Garleanu ’29 recently received a Blue Ribbon for his science project that he submitted to the 2026 St. Louis Science Fair. “I titled my project The Role of Symmetry and Geometric Constraints in Origami Deployment and Expansion, where I investigated how crease geometry influences the motion of origami structures and whether visual symmetry can reliably predict mechanical behavior. This project allowed me to combine my interests in math, physics, and origami into a single investigation.” Congratulations, Nicholas!

Varsity Cycling Rams Rock the Chain of Rocks Duathlon

Last weekend, at the Chain of Rocks Bridge Duathlon, the Varsity Cycling Rams were well represented! Despite a chilly start and stiff headwinds, Sawyer Huffman ’29 placed second in the under-19 men’s division in his first-ever multisport event. The Mediocre Meanderers team, comprised of Ash Falk ’26, Nolan Jones ’26, and Luke McGinness ’26, took second in the men’s team division, and might have placed first except for a pesky flat tire. Not to be outdone, Cycling Coaches Chris Ludbrook and Britta Siegel took first place overall with their team Brute Stupidity.

Varsity Golf Competes at Districts

The Varsity Boys Golf team competed in districts on Wednesday, May 6. The team finished out with a great season to build on next year. Congratulations to Chase Segal ’27 for shooting 75(+3) and taking 9th, which is First Team All-District and qualifies him for state. Way to go, Rams!
