MICDS eighth-grade students and faculty took over the St. Louis Zoo this past Wednesday for a well-deserved day of sunshine and exploration. As one of their “last hurrahs” before transitioning to the Upper School, students spent the day navigating the animal habitats and exhibits in small groups at their own pace. Whether they were competitive participants in Middle School Science Teacher William Bander’s legendary scavenger hunt or simply preferred to soak up the beautiful weather with the animals, a fantastic time was had by all!
A parent shared her gratitude to Eighth Grade Dean & Arts Teacher Charlotte Dougherty and said, “I love that the kids had a great time together. It was excellent to hear how they “problem-solved” (with “problem” being a relative term) when some people in the group brought just enough money for lunch, while others had brought money to spend on the train, ice cream, and souvenirs, in addition to lunch. It sounds like it was an idyllic day with fantastic weather, fun animal-watching experiences, and independent engagement with friends in a safe exploration space. I know what it’s like to take just two children to the zoo – and perhaps a few friends alongside them, so I wanted to take a moment to thank you for bringing the 140-ish Class of 2030 members on this special adventure!”
