Inside a Vibrant Summer at MICDS

When the academic year ends, summer at MICDS continues to hum with activity through three summer camp offerings: Camp Pegasus, Eliot Summer Academy, and STL Summer Sports Camps. There’s laughter, learning, and memory-making in every corner of campus, delivering an engaging and vibrant change of pace.

Camp Pegasus

For more than 30 years, Camp Pegasus has brought excitement, friendships, and fun for kindergarteners to sixth graders. Guided by expert counselors, campers explore an exciting variety of activities in swimming, arts and crafts, technology, science, sports, and games. They move through one adventure after another with each session and offering.

For campers in seventh through 10th grades, the Summer Stock theater program focuses on audition techniques, acting, tech and production assistance, and performance. Campers work with an experienced director to build a non-musical production in a professional theater facility. Daily acting workshops help stretch imaginations, build performance skills, and foster collaboration with fellow actors. The camp culminates in two performances on the final day: a dress rehearsal for a live audience of Pegasus campers and counselors, and an evening performance for family and friends.

Also for older campers is the Youth Leadership Institute, where participants design a program that matches their passions and goals. With courses in babysitting, CPR certification, and podcasting, civic engagement, financial literacy, and more, each week brings a new mix of hands-on challenges, inspiring speakers, creative projects, and leadership adventures that build confidence, collaboration, and purpose.

Thank you to the 1,000+ Pegasus campers who enjoyed six weeks of memories, friendship, learning, and fun thanks to the efforts of Charlotte Dougherty, Camp Director, Middle School Arts Teacher, and Dean; retired Middle School Arts Teacher Tim Storey, Aquatics Director Khannie Dastgah, and 100 staff members.

Eliot Summer Academy

Named after William Greenleaf Eliot, one of our School’s founders and visionary thinkers, Eliot Summer Academy offers middle and high school students a range of academic and enrichment courses that stretch their limits both in and out of the classroom. Classes offered through Eliot Summer Academy are ideal for summer review or enrichment.

Enrichment courses, such as Reading Strategies for the Writing Process, offer something new and help students prepare for the next school year. Review courses in math foundations, world languages, and more help students transition between coursework levels and allow them to redo work, catch up, or make up a course.

Upper School Learning Specialist & Director of Eliot Summer Academy Sam Cummins and several MICDS teachers led more than 100 students through thoughtful sessions in reading, science, and math. Students also enjoyed classes such as digital fabrication, AI essentials, college essay writing, and creative writing.

STL Summer Sports Camps

To make the most of MICDS athletic facilities during the summer months, the high-energy STL Summer Sports Camps, run independently by local coaches, keep athletes moving throughout the season. Campers focus on developing skills and improving technique, and STL Summer Sports Camps offers a program for every athlete, giving campers a taste of playing for an elite team in a low-pressure environment.

This year, over 500 campers participated in 10 sports, including pickleball, wrestling, and baseball in the newly renovated Werner Stadium. Thank you to Justin French, Operations Administrative Assistant & Director of Summer Sports Camps, and to our outstanding coaches for creating active, fun experiences this summer.
