Unflappable, a Session on Improv-Based Resilience, Presented by Steve Hughes ’84

What do you do when something doesn’t go your way? What if you could remain calm and find your footing in short order? What if you were more resilient after setbacks? Unflappable is a dynamic, interactive program that gives you simple-to-use tools to unlock your EQ to be more present and think better on your feet. Borrowing from the world of improv comedy (with a splash of science), you’ll learn to stay cool under pressure no matter what life throws your way. Come to this lively session and you’ll get to try out these skills in real-time, meet other alums, improve your resilience, and walk away a better person.

Lunch & Learn: “I’m Never Moving Back: Teaching Teenagers to Love St. Louis” Featuring Marshall McCurties, MICDS Upper School History Faculty

Tuesday, April 22, 2021 — 12:00 p.m. CST via Zoom

This session will focus on the History Department’s flagship course, St. Louis History. St. Louis is a microcosm for the rest of the United States. A thorough understanding of St. Louis reveals the challenges and opportunities presented to modern cities. Helping students dive deep into the rich history of St. Louis helps students reposition themselves as agents of change within their community. Our session will highlight some of the key takeaways from the course and discuss how we approach teaching history to teenagers who often say, “I can’t wait to leave St. Louis!”
