Math Placement
In 7th grade, students are placed in either 7th Grade Mathematics or 7th Grade Mathematics Accelerated. Placement in one of two courses for 7th grade is made after careful consideration of each student’s performance in previous math courses as well as results from a placement test and recent standardized tests. The majority of students entering 7th grade will take 7th Grade Mathematics. The remainder, those who are ready for a more abstract and mathematically rigorous approach to the subject and are also highly motivated with strong study skills already in place, will be recommended for the more accelerated course. It is important to note that math progress is monitored for each individual student, and evaluations as to proper course placement are made at the end of each school year; placement in 7th Grade Mathematics does not preclude a student from taking an accelerated course in a future year.
