World Languages

World Language Choices

In 8th grade, students continue a World Language to study from four possible choices: Mandarin Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish. If new to MICDS, the criteria for being placed in a language include the following: time and order of registration, statement of interest, and previous experience. Due to staffing and class size limitations, sometimes we are required to enroll students in their second or third choices. We ask that you please rank your choices.

Math Placement

For 8th-grade students, there are three possible placements: Math 8 Algebra Foundations, Math 8 Algebra, or Math 8 Algebra Accelerated. Placement is based on the student’s exposure to certain math topics in their 7th-grade courses as well as performance on the placement test and standardized tests.

New 8th-grade students are required to take a mathematics placement test to help in determining the best math course for the next school year.
