Ghost

6th Grade Explore the World of Professional Theatre

This week, 6th graders went on a field trip to see the Metro Theater Company’s production of Ghost at the Grandel Theatre. Based on the award-winning bestseller by Jason Reynolds, Ghost tells the story of a young boy, Castle “Ghost” Crenshaw, who grapples with a troubling past and struggles to find his way—until he joins the track team. With the help of his new track family, Ghost battles the difficult realities of his past, finds a place where he truly belongs and begins to realize his fullest potential.

This play explores and celebrates the journey to self-discovery in young people, and the significant role coaches and peers can play in fostering a sense of family and belonging regardless of one’s past or present circumstances.

“We are excited to have provided this live theatrical experience for the 6th grade,” shared Middle & Lower School Drama Teacher Missy Heinemann, “especially one that is so meaningful and relevant in nature for our young people.” We hope that the 6th graders learned a lot from the production!

Following the performance, the actors remained on stage for a Q&A session with students in the audience. This interactive addition to the event provided our 6th graders with insight into the world of professional theater and story-making. Many students enjoyed meeting the actors in the lobby as they left the theater. It was a memorable experience for all!
