A Tribute to Tom James ’87

When Thomas Franklin “Tom” James IV ’87 passed away on July 31, 2012, the MICDS community lost a dear friend and one of its most loyal supporters. Many people will remember James as the hardworking MICDS sports statistician who was a vital resource for all Rams teams. He also contributed his expertise as a statistician to the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues and Rams, ESPN, Fox Sports for St. Louis and Purdue University Football. He became the youngest person to qualify as an Official Major League Baseball Scorer when he passed the examination in his mid-20s.
Athletic Director Don Maurer spoke for many when he said, “We lost a true friend. A true, true friend.” During a special tribute during an Upper School assembly, James’ CDS 1987 classmate Rob Klahr described his friend as “MICDS’ greatest sportsman.”
This article, by David Kvidahl, was posted on stltoday.com and describes the meaningful way MICDS has chosen to honor Tom James’ memory throughout the 2012-2013 school year.
