Grace ’14 Earns Eagle Scout Badge

Congratulations to Louis Grace ’14, who who received his Eagle Scout badge during a Boy Scouts Court of Honor Ceremony on November 7. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership. This includes an extensive project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads and manages. For his Eagle Scout project, Louis spent over 100 hours designing and building compost boxes for the Annunziata parish school.

At the awards ceremony, he gave a very inspirational speech about working toward goals taking chances and trying new things. Louis has been involved with the Boy Scouts since 5th grade. He has participated in to NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) and NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Training) and was a staff member at NYLT last summer. He has also participated in a program called Rayado, a 250-mile backpacking trek in New Mexico, and has held some leadership positions within his troop.

A special part of the Eagle Scout ceremony involves asking all of the Eagle Scouts present in the audience to come to the podium to welcome new members into this prestigious group. Louis’s MICDS cycling coach and Upper School math teacher, Chris Ludbrook, an Eagle Scout from the same troop, was among those welcoming Louis to Eagle Scout ranks. Susan Good, Upper School English teacher, was also present at the ceremony.
