Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Athletic Facilities

On Thursday, students, faculty, and staff, joined by leadership donors and honored guests, celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for the school’s new athletic facilities: the Steward Family Aquatic Center and William R. Orthwein Pool; a Multi-Sport Stadium with the O’Hara Family Field; and the Holekamp Track and Field Stadium. These facilities will support the MICDS football, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, swimming, diving and water polo programs. The aquatic center will also be used for instruction in physical education classes and summer camp programs.

The keynote speaker was Michael Scherer, a linebacker for the Mizzou Tigers and an MICDS Class of 2012 alumnus. Michael shared three key pieces of advice for the students:
1. Work as hard as you can at what you love. “There are enough average people in the world. Don’t be average. Work to be great.”
2. Always remember where you came from. “MICDS isn’t only where I went to school. It’s also what shaped me.”
3. Be thankful. “It’s easy to forget how blessed you are.”
