Lower Schoolers Dress Up and Dive into Reading During Book Fair Week

The Lower School Scholastic Book Fair returned this week for a hybrid in-person and online event! After a successful virtual-only format last year, the Lower School kicked off the in-person return with a welcome breakfast and time to browse the book aisles for students and parents alike.

Each year, the School receives 25% of all revenue that supports the Lower School Library. The funds help purchase new books and resources for the library and support homeroom reading projects, classroom libraries, and “lit circles.” This fun and interactive event is an excellent way for students to discover exclusive titles from Scholastic and explore award-winning books and more genres than you can count. All of which is designed to get books into the hands of students and ignite a lifelong love of reading.

To add to the excitement, Lower Schoolers enjoyed special book-themed dress-up days, such as dressing up as a favorite book character and «Hats» off to Reading. There was also «Cozy Up and Read Day,» where students got to wear their pajamas to school and read their favorite books.

During library time, students could browse the Book Fair, share their excitement for reading, and create «wish lists» to take home to their parents. Lower School Librarian Thomas Buffington expressed his gratitude for the partnership, flexibility, and support of families and fellow Beasley teachers to make this year’s Book Fair a success. He said, «The return of our ‘in-person’ experience has shown great success, evident through the excitement on our students’ faces as they acquire new books and school supplies. The Book Fair keeps our goal of supporting students’ literacy skills front of mind, and our Book Fair has succeeded!”

The online Book Fair runs through March 19, so parents can still shop for new reads for their children and friends or as gifts while supporting the Lower School Library. Click here to shop!
