MICDS Seniors Celebrate a Milestone with Chill Day

Seniors at MICDS are celebrating more than the upcoming winter break; they have finally reached the end of the road of college application season! To mark the occasion, parent volunteers from the Class of 2026 decked out the Steward Family Aquatic Center Lobby with end-to-end feasts, games, and opportunities to connect for the traditional Senior Chill Day.

The first order of business was the Parents Association distributing the requisite Class of 2026 pajama pants, and the students and senior advisors sporting them on a full dress-down day. Even Head of School Jay Rainey was spotted in his newfound comfortable pants!

This special day offers MICDS seniors the chance to relax after a frenetic fall filled with college applications and a rigorous course load. It also allows our 12th-grade Rams a moment to pause and have a short burst of fun together before final exams begin.

Thanks to the many parent volunteers who helped coordinate this event, students were treated to a hearty breakfast and lunch, delicious on-the-go snacks and games, and even a coffee and hot chocolate bar! The opportunity to sit and take a breath while time flies by was a welcome respite in the busy Upper School year.

Students also had the opportunity to take photos at the photo booth and to offer video reflections on their time at MICDS, which will be included in the senior class slideshow on Senior Night in May.

Upper School Teacher and 12th-Grade Dean Daniel George shared, “It was heartening to see the Class of 2026, my beloved seniors, laughing together and soaking in the support of their parents, advisors, and the entire senior team. As Dean, I was honored to join advisors in sharing heartfelt video messages of love, admiration, and encouragement for all they’ve accomplished and all that’s to come. It was a day that beautifully reflected their strength, spirit, and sense of community and belonging.”

Chill Day is an event that seniors look forward to all year, as it marks the halfway point. Between smiles and laughs, there are often bittersweet moments, hugs, and even tears as they realize their time together as a class is drawing to a close.

Congratulations to our seniors for their hard work in getting to this point in the process. We hope Senior Chill Day brought renewed optimism and joy for the road ahead!
