Middle School Journalists Start Reporting on Winter Term

In the MICDS Newsroom Winter Term course, seventh- and eighth-grade students learn the fundamentals of journalism: how to write and photograph to effectively report a story. They’ve been assigned stories and you’ll get to read their full articles next week, but in the meantime, they’re flexing their creative muscles and practicing some early lessons like the importance of providing context, reporting truth rather than assumptions, and composing powerful photographs. Their initial foray into the world of journalism through a self-directed exercise where they visited classrooms of their choice, took photos, and drafted captions was a success! Here’s a sneak peek into what these talented student journalists are learning.
