Senior Boat Races Make Their First Splash in Polk Pond

Tuesday’s warm summer-like weather was perfect for the Polk Pond Dedication and traditional Senior Boat Races.

Faculty, staff, Upper School students and parents gathered on Tuesday, September 19, for the brief dedication ceremony of Polk Pond, followed by the fan-favorite traditional Senior Boat Races. Thank you to the Polk family – Bill `74, Carrie, Olivia `14, and Jack `16, and Finn `19 – for making the pond and all of its traditions live on for years to come.

Each senior advisory constructed a boat out of common materials, such as cardboard, duct tape and paint. The competition started with four heats, where each advisory’s boat and paddler(s) raced against a few others to the other side of the pond. The top finishers – four advisories in total – then competed in the final race. In the end, Ms. Hood’s advisory won the coveted first place title in this year’s Senior Boat Race. After the race, seniors were able to cool off in Polk Pond.
