School Closed - Monday, January 30, 2023

Inclement weather conditions have created hazardous conditions on local roads and highways. In the interest of the safety of our families and employees, MICDS will be closed today, January 30. No classes will be held, all on-campus activities will be canceled, and parking lots will be closed. In view of the lost instructional day today, the Middle and Upper Schools will run block schedules through the end of the week (C, D, E, and F rotations). This calendar change means that, except in the Lower School, we will NOT run a late-start Wednesday schedule on February 1. Lower School will still have a late start. Middle and Upper School classes will begin promptly at 8 a.m. this Wednesday.

Six Junior FLL Teams Win Awards at Expo

Six MICDS Lower School teams attended the 6th Annual MICDS Jr. FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Expo on February 20. The annual event drew a record crowd to see 16 teams share what they learned about trash and recycling through the Waste Wise Challenge.

Students presented their research, working LEGO model and project poster to a panel of reviewers and peers, then moved their poster and model to the Expo area to share and see other projects. The MICDS FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Teams were the main attraction in the Loeb Robotics Lab. The event ended with awards and high-fives.

Congratulations to the MICDS FIRST LEGO League Jr. Teams that won awards at the event:
The Inventors
Recycling Rams
The LEGO Recyclers
The Recycling Rams
The Ram Recyclers

The Jr. FLL season opens for K-3 students in September with an informational meeting. Parents form teams and organize times to meet outside of school, and MICDS hosts the Expo in late February each year. Contact Bob Shaw ( to find out how to sign up students or be a student or adult volunteer.
