Brooks Dubbed "Player to Watch"
Senior Jessica Brooks ’20 is highlighted as a girls basketball player to watch according to The St. Louis American. Brooks averaged 18 points per game last season.
Duchars Makes All-American Team
Congratulations to field hockey star Mia Duchars ’20 for making the 2019 GoPlay Sports Tours/NFHCA High School All-American Third Team for the second year in a row! Only 48 student-athletes in the country were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association with this honor. Congratulations, Mia!
Four Rams Perform in Nutcracker on Ice
This past Saturday night, several freshmen went to cheer on classmates performing at Nutcracker on Ice: Skye Brothers ’23 who played Angel and Skye Patton ’23 who played Aunt Cinnamon. Haylii Sondrol ’22 skated as Butterfly and Caroline Latta ’20 skated as Mouse Queen. Congratulations to all our skaters for a wonderful performance, and thank you to our freshmen who went to support their friends despite a snowstorm!
Ram Honored with City Academy's Alumni Service Award
In early December, Sophia Taylor ’20 was honored with City Academy’s Alumni Service Award which is given to alumni of City Academy who serve others and make a difference in the community. Sophia volunteers at City Academy, MICDS, Hope House, World Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity and more.

Holekamp ’27 Wins Writing Contest
Millie Holekamp ’27 won first place in the St. Louis Writer’s Guild Young Writers Awards. Her short story is titled Faithful and has been published in an anthology with the other winners. Millie entered the 4th-5th Grade category. Each submission had to begin with the line, “When the cup turned over…” Stories were required to have more than 250 words and a maximum of 500 words. Entries could be scary, adventurous, humorous, or just plain fun. Judging was based on originality, characters, cohesiveness, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Millie’s story is about a dog in Pompeii who stayed loyal to his home and family by staying by the villa as Mt. Vesuvius erupted. “I came up with the idea when I went to the Pompeii exhibit at the St. Louis Science Center on a school field trip,” she shared. “There was a cast of a dog and I saw an interpretive sign saying that he was found right outside a house. I was so moved by this cast, I had to write about it.” It took her only 45 minutes to compose Faithful, but a week to edit it.
The St. Louis Writers Guild invites Young Writers Awards inners to share their stories at their monthly workshop in December. Millie said she was a little nervous to read her piece, “but mostly excited.” She loves to write and enters contests for practice. Last year she won 2nd place at the Young Writers Awards. Millie said, “I would like to add a special comment for my 4th grade teacher, Mr. Brennan, for all the extra help he has given me and inspiring me to write.”
Boys Basketball Wins in Close Match Against St. Francis Borgia Regional High School
The Boys Basketball team is included in a writeup on emissourian.com for their victory over the Knights. MICDS won 48-46 in a very close, exciting match! Several Rams are highlighted in the article for their contributions to the win, including Jack Pronger ’21, Hasani Spann ’21, Nick Roper ’21, Brandon Mitchell-Day ’22, Jalen Pace ’21 and Sam Wienstroer ’21. Boys Squash Wins the 2019 Flanagan Tournament
The MICDS Boys Squash team won the 2019 Flanagan Tournament last weekend at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. They won against Lancaster, Shady Side Academy and Woodberry Forest. Way to go, Rams! What a RAM-tastic start to the season!
All Metro Field Hockey Roster
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch also named their All Metro Field Hockey team last week. Congratulations to First Team members Mia Duchars ’20 and Lily Baker ’21, Second Team members Caroline Carr ’20 and Kate Oliver ’22 and Third Team member Reagan Calcari ’20!
Coach Lohr Receives Tremendous Accolades
Congratulations to Head Track and Field and Girls Head Cross Country Coach Jim Lohr on recently being inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (MTCCCA) Hall of Fame. The ceremony was conducted on Friday, December 13 at the annual coaches clinic in Columbia, Missouri. The ceremony included a video of many former and current athletes congratulating Coach Lohr on his induction including Lauren Waterbury ’11, Jordon Mann ’11, Amos Bartelsmeyer ’13, Cara Johnson ’18, Devon Windsor ’12, Julia Ray ’23, Zionn Pearson ’18, Katie Laughlin ’16, Palmer Mihalevich ’20, Geneva Lee ’16, Becca Perry ’99, Margaret Sliney ’16, Colleen Sliney ’17, Cece Moore ’13 and Josh Sutton ’19.
In addition to being inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame, Coach Lohr was also awarded the Class 3 Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year award which was followed by a phenomenal cross country season led by the Girls Class 3 Cross Country State Champion Juila Ray ’23 and a State Champion Team consisting of Ashley Benoist ’23, Palmer Mihalevich ’20, Riley Noonan ’22, Simrin Phatak ’21, Julia Ray ’23, Sarah Reed ’20 and Morgan Weber ’21. This was the first State Championship title for MICDS followed behind a 2nd place finish in 2015.
