Alert

School Closed - Monday, January 30, 2023

Inclement weather conditions have created hazardous conditions on local roads and highways. In the interest of the safety of our families and employees, MICDS will be closed today, January 30. No classes will be held, all on-campus activities will be canceled, and parking lots will be closed. In view of the lost instructional day today, the Middle and Upper Schools will run block schedules through the end of the week (C, D, E, and F rotations). This calendar change means that, except in the Lower School, we will NOT run a late-start Wednesday schedule on February 1. Lower School will still have a late start. Middle and Upper School classes will begin promptly at 8 a.m. this Wednesday.

State House Representative Shamed Dogan Speaks at Upper School Assembly

State House Representative Speaks at Upper School Assembly

Shamed Dogan ’96 spoke to upper school students this week about his experience since graduating MICDS and what life as a politician is like. He is currently a Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 98th district in St. Louis County which includes parts of Ballwin, Ellisville, Fenton and Wildwood. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2014 and re-elected to a second term in 2016.

Shamed discussed with students how he came to love politics and speaking in front of people during his time at MICDS. He also brought a message of leadership and perseverance. During his time here, he said he was inspired by upperclassmen such as Sterling Brown ’94, who was the STUCO president. Shamed tried to become a leader in student government but ultimately wasn’t elected. After graduation, he went on to study Political Science and Philosophy at Yale and tried yet again for election to student government but did not make it into a leadership position. His first election win came when he won the seat in which he now serves, and was re-elected to for a second term. His message was to keep working towards what you want to be and ultimately things will work out in your favor.
