Steve Hughes ’84 Inspires Entrepreneurship Students

Alumnus and MICDS parent Steve Hughes ’84 spoke to both sections of the Upper School’s Entrepreneurship class on September 6. Mr. Hughes discussed his journey as an entrepreneur and making the transition from a career in advertising to a business owner. He is the founder of Hit Your Stride (hityourstride.com), a motivation company that trains organizations and individuals in the art of public speaking, and how to use those skills to give memorable and effective presentations, negotiate with clients and market businesses. “I framed my presentation around Mark Twain’s quote, ‘Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do,” he said. His advice to students included taking smart risks, looking for opportunities, being flexible and adaptable to changing market conditions

Caleb Pultman ’17 learned some helpful tips from Mr. Hughes. “Having the opportunity to listen to an active entrepreneur was an amazing experience. Mr. Hughes shared with me that it is important to surround yourself with advisors who can offer helpful advice and share your goals for your company. He also explained the importance of cash flow in the sustainability of a company and why hard work and goal-oriented tasks yield success,” he said.
