Student Achievement: Bhaskar ’17, Flom ’17, Moench ’17, Fleming ’19

Nidhi Bhaskar ’17 and Jake Flom ’17 were awarded scholarships from The National Merit Scholarship Corp. About 2,500 seniors nationwide were chosen to receive the $2,500 awards. Selection was based on academic record, standardized test scores, contributions in leadership and community service activities, an essay and a recommendation from a high school official. Mary Ren Moench ’17 was honored on May 4, 2017 at the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, District 7 Awards Ceremony for her 12 years as a Girl Scout. She is currently completing her Gold Award, finishing 80 hours of service to her project, titled “Project Sing”. Designed to bring singing and music to retirement communities in order to improve overall health and well-being of the residents, Mary Ren and her team of volunteers will be singing through May and June in area retirement homes.

Katie Flemming ‘19 was presented a State Proclamation and Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award by Governor Eric Greitens, during National Volunteer Week at the State Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri. Katie also assisted Governor Greitens with presenting 62 Presidential Volunteer Service Awards at high schools in the Jefferson City area.

In 2016, Katie started Katie’s Books for Kids, a Not for Profit 501C3. The mission is to donate one new or gently used book for each pediatric patient in Children’s Hospitals. Katie has been in and out of hospitals her whole life and wanted to give back to others. Reading to children is a passion for Katie and she hopes Katie’s Books for Kids will grow to help children nationally. Last year, Katie donated over 700 books/videos to Children’s Hospitals.
