Senior Shines in the Mathematical Association of America's Prestigious Competition Series

By Daniel Wiederkehr, Upper School Math Teacher

MICDS is proud to recognize senior Yash Shelar ’26 for his outstanding achievements in the Mathematical Association of America’s (MAA) prestigious competition series.

Yash demonstrated exceptional mathematical talent this year with nearly perfect scores on both the AMC (American Mathematics Competition) and the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination)—scores that place him among the very best young mathematicians in the country. These remarkable results earned Yash an invitation to compete in the USAMO (United States of America Mathematical Olympiad), one of the most prestigious and challenging mathematics competitions in the world.  He is the first MICDS student on record to earn an invitation to this competition.

The USAMO is a rigorous, proof-based examination administered over two days and nine total hours, requiring competitors to construct and communicate sophisticated mathematical arguments—far beyond standard computation. This year, Yash sat for the USAMO at Washington University in St. Louis, representing MICDS with distinction.

Along the way, Yash tackled some of the most demanding problems in competition mathematics—including challenging probability problems requiring deep geometric and analytical reasoning. His success reflects not only his extraordinary intellectual ability but also his dedication, perseverance, and love of mathematics.

We are incredibly proud of Yash and look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the years ahead. Please join us in congratulating him on this remarkable achievement!
