Success in the Scholastic 2020 Regional Art Awards

Benjamin Hollander-Bodie ’20 received two Silver Keys and three Honorable Mentions in the Scholastic 2020 Regional Art Awards! The Regional Awards cover all of Missouri and part of Kansas. Benjamin received Silver Keys for his pieces “Dark Matter” and “Balsa II” and Honorable Mentions for “Pax Americana,” “Angel” and “Soccer Trophy.” Over 1300 works of art were submitted in the competition. As a winner, he will receive certificates and pins from his art teachers in mid-February. Congratulations, Benjamin!

5 Rams Create Ceramic Teapots for High School Teapot Exhibit

In January, five MICDS Rams participated in a High School Teapot Exhibit at the Spirtas Gallery at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. The exhibit was the product of the Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design with the Spirtas Gallery. Regional schools were invited to have students submit their teapot to be on display.
Check out some of the ceramic teapot masterpieces by Andrew Butler ’20, Cam Craig ’21, Jack Pronger ’21, Ellie Gira ’22 and Olivia Rickers ’22! The exhibit opened on January 24 and will have the teapots on display through March 27, 2020.

Boys Basketball Defeats Lutheran South

After three quarters of lagging behind, the MICDS Boys Basketball Team pulled off a victory in the fourth quarter at their game on Tuesday against Lutheran South. The final score was 64-59. Way to persevere, Rams!

Girls Basketball Victory Against Villa Duchesne

On Thursday, MICDS defeated Villa Duchesne, 71-34. The Rams’ Jessica Brooks ’20 had a game-high of 29 points with Ellie Gira ’22 also earning double-digit points with 13. The Rams will host Lutheran South on Tuesday, February 11 at 6 p.m. Keep it up, Rams!

10 Field Hockey Rams Named to 2019 National High School Academic Squad

Congratulations to our many Field Hockey Rams who worked hard to be named to the 2019 National High School Academic Squad! This program “recognizes those high school seniors and juniors who have achieved a minimum cumulative, unweighted grade-point average of 3.50 out of 4.0 — or the equivalent — through the first quarter of the 2019-20 school year.” Juniors and seniors who have earned a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.9 out of 4.0 through the first quarter of the school year have been recognized as Scholars of Distinction. These students are noted with an asterisk.

Middle School Squash

Middle School Girls Squash Team Ranks 13th in the Nation

This past weekend, MICDS Middle Schoolers Annabelle Medler ’24, Avery Summers ’24, Charlotte Derdeyn ’24, Bridget Clennan ’24, Abigail Derdeyn ’25 and Hannah VanValkenburg ’25 took part in the 2020 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championships at Yale University. Our Middle School team qualified for Division One, which includes the top 16 teams in the country. It was a phenomenal weekend of squash and an enjoyable experience for our Middle School players who gained valuable match experience in the top division.

Check out their feature in West Newsmagazine! The Rams played four matches, losing to the 2019 Middle School Team Squash Champions, The Baldwin School (Pennsylvania) and narrowly to Agnes Irwin (Pennsylvania). Our middle schoolers enjoyed wins over Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (Pennsylvania) and The Shipley School (Pennsylvania). Based on their performance at nationals, our MICDS Girls Middle School team is currently ranked the 13th best team in the nation. Congratulations to the girls on an excellent achievement at nationals.

Faculty Feature: Greg Foster's Heart Transplant Gives Him a Second Chance at Life

Greg Foster, Olympian, USA Track & Field Hall of Famer and beloved MICDS Coordinator of Student Engagement and Track & Field Coach, recently had a successful heart transplant. Watch his miraculous story in a preview segment on KSDK about how he’s been given this second chance at life. Be sure to tune in to KSDK on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. to watch his full, miraculous story with interviewer Frank Cusumano and hear what he has to say about the importance of organ donations.

As shown by his welcome-back greetings and student get well cards, Greg is loved by all at MICDS. We are thrilled to continue sharing our love and support for him and support as he walks to a new heartbeat in life!
