Athlete of the Week Winston Moore

Winston Moore ’23 is the High School Athlete of the Week according to Scoops with Danny Mac. Moore has scored over 200 points for the Rams and nearly 1,000 yards rushing among many other football accolades. A versatile player, Moore shares how he’s led the 2022 football team, bonded with teammate Steven Hall ’23, and has been inspired by his two older brothers who played football at the collegiate level. Moore will hit the gridiron for Colgate University next year after graduating from MICDS.

Rams Attend the Journalism Education Association's National Conference

Last Friday, editors and staff members from the MICDS student publications clubs, The Voice and The Phoenix, attended the Journalism Education Association’s National Fall Conference in St. Louis. The conference featured the nation’s largest fall gathering of scholastic journalists, advisers, and journalism teachers. Students attended break-out sessions, participated in workshops, and spoke with university representatives about studying journalism in the future.
Editor-in-Chief of The Voice Rachel Phillips ’24 said, «The convention was so much fun, and I learned so much from each of the sessions I attended. I spent the day in sessions learning how to be a better editor, focusing on everything from journalistic best practices to leadership skills. I was so excited to get the chance to meet other students and editors from across the country to talk about everything from our school’s publications to our respective hometowns. Everyone I met at the convention was so friendly and willing to share ideas and advice about anything. This is an experience I will be able to look back on and put into practice for the rest of my life, and I will value the lessons I learned and the people I met for a long time to come.»

Staff member of The Phoenix Phoebe Burgis ’23 shared some important (and fun) takeaways: «One of the sessions I attended was called «Great Editor = Great Leader,» which was run by Dan Mueller, a Herff Jones rep that we have worked with on our own yearbook. Some of the things I learned from him were to always be excited and passionate every day, to lead by example, and also that it is acceptable to bribe staffers with food to finish their work by the deadline.» Burgis also said, «The whole event was a lot bigger than I was imagining; there were students from all over the country, and I remember feeling excited and curious about what the sessions and booths would look like, since I have never been to a convention or conference before. The overall vibe of the day was pretty enjoyable and chill, especially going through all of the college booths on the convention floor and collecting all the freebies.»
