Fifth Grader Creates Jersey Magnet in Makerspace for Entire Fifth-Grade Class

Sam Gabrielson ’29 used his design skills and the Middle School Makerspace to create a themed giveaway for his classmates in honor of the St. Louis Cardinals Opening Day on Thursday, April 7. Gabrielson shared, “I was inspired by a Brett Favre magnet I saw in my dad’s office, and I thought I could design my own. I wanted to give out jersey magnets before the Cardinals’ Opening Day, so I created a design in Tinkercad using the Cardinals logo and jersey numbers. With the help of Mr. Lawrence in the Middle School, we 3D-printed them in white, then I took them home and decorated the number and logo designs with Sharpies and applied a magnet on the back so kids could stick them on their lockers. I added different numbers for different players like Wainwright, Molina, Goldschmidt, Pujols, etc., and I made enough for the whole fifth-grade class. People liked them a lot. I even made a vintage blue version too!” While he couldn’t attend the home opener, he and his classmates were more than ready to cheer on the redbirds! Thank you, Sam, for acting on your inspiration and creativity in such a spirited way!
