Duchars Continues to Collect Field Hockey Accolades

Following a three-day selection camp, Mia Duchars ’20 was one of 30 athletes chosen for the USA Field Hockey’s U17 Women’s National Team. She was also the only Missouri athlete selected by Max Field Hockey as a third team All-American and was selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as third team All-American, one of only 48 athletes. These accomplishments are added to her list of recent achievements, including earning First Team on the 2018 West/Mid-West All-Region Team, Metro League Conference Player of the Year, All-Metro First Team, Preseason Regional Player to Watch and All-American Watch List.

Kids Helping Kids Succeed in STEM

Last year, Arjun Ramakrishnan ’20 recognized that he could harness student STEM power to help others. Research shows that mentoring and tutoring middle and high school students in STEM subjects greatly influences success in academics and beyond, but Arjun noticed there were no organizations offering simple, peer-to-peer mentoring. He launched StemUp STL with the mission to provide high-quality STEM mentoring in a small group setting, inspiring successful STEM students to share their gifts. StemUp STL currently serves the International Institute of St. Louis and La Salle Middle School, and Arjun reports that every one of the 25 students being tutored has improved their math or science grades to As or Bs.

Equestrienne Eloise Lurk Wins Reserve Champion Ribbon

Eloise Lurk ’28 recently competed in the 2019 Lake St. Louis Winter Festival Horse Show at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis and rode away with a reserve champion ribbon after earning the second highest point total for her class of events.
