Girls Swimming and Diving Media Coverage

The Girls Swimming and Diving team appeared in an article in West Newsmagazine this week after their 2nd place finish at Class 1 State Championships. The article interviews Head Coach Kristen Witzman who shared, “We were extremely thrilled with our second-place finish as a team. That is our highest finish since I have been there (13 years) and only the third time we have gotten a team trophy since I have been there.” Witzman, who gave birth to her first child during the season, kept in touch with Assistant Coach Chris McCrary and the girls as they worked their way to State.

The article highlights Abby Wickersham ’22, Anna Scott Baur ’22, Sophie Henriksen ’22, Alex Fox ’19 and Grace Lee ’19. Read about the two Class 1 State records set by the MICDS team, the recap of State and about the individual and relay accomplishments in West Newsmagazine here.

In case you missed it, the team’s second place victory was also included in articles on Swimming World Magazine and on SwimSwam.com.

Read how Ms. Federman explains how the two areas of interest are vital. Also, see how she has incorporated STEM in her classroom during a Battle of Gettysburg lesson.

Mead Ploszay

Mind Matters Podcast Interviews Mead Ploszay

Middle School Learning Specialist Mead Ploszay was interviewed on the Mind Matters podcast recently. In an episode entitled “All Work and No Play,” she shares how the concept of play has changed. She offers her insight into her study of student choice and unstructured, free time while also answering questions about the impact of screens and what parents can do to allow for more play in the lives of their children.
“It’s really important for your child to be able to problem solve and manage uncertainty and figure out how to approach a task…give them those opportunities. Be in a space where you know that they need that free time…Be outside, take a risk, figure out how to be bored and what to do about it.” Listen to the podcast.
