Student Standouts: Girls & Boys Cross Country, Boys & Girls Squash, Middle School Squash, and Girls Tennis

Cross Country Highlights from Priory and Nike Invitationals
- The JV Girls won the JV Division in the Priory XC Invite.
- Katherine Royce ’24 was the champion in the JV Division in the Priory XC Invite. Amara Macia ’26 was 2nd place, Zara Khan ’25 was 3rd place, Carolyn Clennan ’26 was 4th place, Maya Ashley-Martin ’24 was 5th place, Charlotte Medler ’26 was 6th place, Ananya Kamineni ’24 was 8th place, and Sophie Reed ’24 was 10th place.
- Katherine Royce ’24 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 24:38.35 (46.3 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Amara Macia ’26 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 24:40.64 (33.3 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Zara Khan ’25 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 25:22.63 (32.9 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Sophie Reed ’24 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 28:24.33 (1 minute and 54 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Norah Wright ’25 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 28:24.50 (1 minute and 31 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Ava Casillas ’26 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 32:18.16 (4 minutes and 43 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Julia Ray ’23 finished in 11th place in the Nike XC Town Twilight Invitational 2022 Race of Champions. She finished with 18:03.8 which is 33 seconds faster than her previous time on the famous LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
- Grace Coppel ’25 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 20:09.80 (0.8 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Abby Wycoff ’24 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 21:35.60 (31.5 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Addison Small ’25 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 21:55.60 (53.7 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Bridget Clennan ’24 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 21:56.20 (54.1 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Annabelle Medler ’24 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 22:05.90 (33.9 seconds faster than her previous PR).
- Addilyn Farmer ’26 PRed in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 22:32.10 (1 minute and 25 seconds faster than her previous PR).
The Boys Cross Country team took second at the Priory Cross Country Invitational. Liam McCarthy ’24 won the race and DJ Williams ’23 medaled with a seventh-place finish!

Three Squash Scholar Athletes Selected from MICDS
MICDS recently had three student-athletes named as part of the US Squash Scholar Athlete program: Abby Derdeyn ’25, Haadis Amin ’23, and CJ Goot ’23.
According to USsquash.org, “The US Squash Scholar Athlete Award recognizes high school students who excel in both the classroom and on the squash court.” An email announcing this award included additional details for the award requirements: “Students who earn the Scholar Athlete Award demonstrate dedication to their studies by achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher while also maintaining an active squash schedule by participating in accredited tournaments or by representing their high school on a scholastic squash team. This award celebrates those who embody the values that are central to being a student-athlete.”
Middle School Squash Visited by Squash World Tour Players
On Friday, September 24, the MICDS Middle School After School Squash Camp had two visitors accompany MICDS senior player/coaches CJ Goot ’23 and Rhea Patnana ’23 at the MICDS squash courts. Daniel Mekbib (#1 player from the Czech Republic and #87 ranked player in the world) and Guilherme Melo (#105 ranked player in the world from Brazil) assisted Goot, Patnana, and Coach Nolan Clarke with Middle School Squash drills and some friendly competition to follow. Mekbib and Melo were in St. Louis competing in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour.
Girls Tennis Rallies Past Burroughs in District Semifinal
Mikaela Mikulec ’24 won the No. 1 singles match against Burroughs on Tuesday which was the deciding victory that made the Rams earn a spot in the Girls Tennis District Finals. Last year, Mikulec was on the same court competing in No. 1 Singles when she lost to the eventual state singles champion. Fighting off feelings of deja vu, she declared a different result this year when she won No. 1 Singles. Read the recap from STL Today here. On Wednesday in the District Finals, the Rams ultimately fell 3-5 to St. Joe.
Last week, in District Individual Tennis action, Mikulec and Rachel Li ’24 took 2nd in Doubles and qualified for State! Additionally, Chelsey Nwamu ’23 and Stella Kreisel ’23 placed 4th in Doubles while Bennett Baur ’25 placed 3rd in Individual District Singles. Way to go, Rams!
