Students Produce Rams Nation Sportscast

Sports fans and students interested in sports journalism found ways to learn while channelling their passion during the 2026 Rams Nation Sportscast Winter Term course. During the two-week class, students began a study of sports journalism by examining trends in sportscasting. They looked at preview articles, athlete features, play-by-play, and game time articles. Once confident as sports journalists, they moved to designing and planning an episode of Rams Nation Sportscast. They scheduled interviews with student athletes and coaches, curated hard-hitting questions, and wrote commentary. They hit the campus to conduct interviews, and sourced both still photography and videos to supplement their stories. Finally, they jumped into the final stage: editing. They did such a great job that their final episode is over 45 minutes long!

“Sports broadcasting was really fun,” said Anna Lottes ’29. “My favorite part was the fact that the project was all independent and student-led. We could decide who we wanted to interview, and we practiced real journalism. I would definitely do this class again. We did so many fun activities and I had a great time.”

Noah Malik ’29 thoroughly enjoyed the course, too. “I took Rams Sportscast because I wanted to see what journalists do and how they do what they do every day,” he said.” My favorite part of this class was interviewing a football player and being able to edit and write to create a short video. We worked on building interviewing skills and also being more creative and personal about the questions we asked different athletes. Overall, I learned how much journalists have to work; they have to create really strong questions while also not being too personal, and they have to be really creative and determined in everything they do.”

Here are two clips so you can see firsthand what a great job these sports journalists did.
