Alert

School Closed - Monday, January 30, 2023

Inclement weather conditions have created hazardous conditions on local roads and highways. In the interest of the safety of our families and employees, MICDS will be closed today, January 30. No classes will be held, all on-campus activities will be canceled, and parking lots will be closed. In view of the lost instructional day today, the Middle and Upper Schools will run block schedules through the end of the week (C, D, E, and F rotations). This calendar change means that, except in the Lower School, we will NOT run a late-start Wednesday schedule on February 1. Lower School will still have a late start. Middle and Upper School classes will begin promptly at 8 a.m. this Wednesday.

Dr. Tanya Roth’s Summer in England

On Monday, Upper School History Teacher Dr. Tanya Roth spoke as part of our “Why I Teach” faculty speaker series.

Tanya Roth

She presented about her summer trip to England for a one-week seminar called “Why History Matters” that was held at Cambridge University through Oxbridge Academic Programs. As one of 20 faculty members present, she ventured all over England to learn about the British History system, ancient magic rituals and so much more.

While there, Dr. Roth embraced all that England had to offer. From enjoying a spot of tea and stopping by Benjamin Franklin’s house to exploring Trinity College Library and the Cambridge American Cemetary, she made the most of her time abroad. She shared, “Anytime in England is not enough for me. I want to keep going back.”

At the conclusion of her speech, she connected her trip to learning more about history in unexpected ways. “Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI…I went to England this summer to learn more about those conflicts that I teach all of the time.” It’s safe to say that her time in London is directly benefiting her great work as a history teacher at MICDS.

In light of her time at the Cambridge American Cemetary and Veteran’s Day, Roth ended the talk with a moment of silence, honoring all those who fought and died for our country or are still fighting.
